2 - Welcome to The Curly Buzz.
The Curly Buzz is an online broadcast of interesting people, information, events and products that are buzzing in the virtual natural hair community.

Today’s topics are Youtubers, Terminology, Reading Pleasures and Online Communities.
YouTube Spot Light

There are several different ways to wear natural hair and this week we are spotlighting three very different Natural Hair YouTubers; a loose, locked and transitioning natural.

Journeytomyroots is a focused natural hair YouTuber who tells you upfront what you will and will not get on her YouTube channel.   Just check out her info bar.  She’s a dyed natural, who has very clear, concise and informative videos on her channel.  She just uploaded a great video about how to preserve twist outs, braids out and bantu knot outs.

Locs are rope like strands that are formed when the hair locks on itself. The hair is not combed and the strands that are normally combed or shed are coiled around themselves to form locs.  There’s a huge presence of YouTubers with locs.  Decor8mylife is a professional who wears her locs with pride.  She recently uploaded a YouTube video discussing interviewing with locs and wearing locs in the professional world.  She’s documenting her locked hair journey and does styling tutorials for locs on her YouTube channel.

She’s titled herself an Unofficial Transitioner .  MissThis897 hasn’t had a relaxer in over 16 months but she has no set plans to big chop, at least not before 18 months of un-officially transitioning.  Her transitioning journey is being documented on her YouTube channel.   She has great tips and hair tutorials for anyone who is transitioning from relaxed to natural hair.

Natural Hair Terminology
If you’re anything like me, sometimes I get lost with all the natural hair terms.  I search for hours upon  hours on trying to figure what the terms really means.  We are going to discuss three natural hair terms

Shingling is the art of using products and maybe a blow dryer to define the natural curls and coils of your hair. SheadJones has a tutorial video that guides us through the process of her shingling her hair.

Wet Bunning is simply, styling your wet, moisturized natural hair in a bun that can last for a few days.  DenimPixie has a tutorial on her YouTube channel on exactly how to wet bun your hair.

Banding is a technique that’s used to stretched natural hair. As natural hair dries, it bound to shrink because that’s the nature of our hair.  You can twist your hair and use hair bands to eliminate some of the shrinking.  Mrskw7 has a really easy to follow tutorial on hair banding.

Reading Pleasure
The Science of Black Hair book by Audrey Davis-Sivasothy has been buzzing around the natural hair community for the past few months.  It’s a comprehensive guide to textured hair.  LadyHill7, AfricanExport and SoulSister75 have all featured the book on their YouTube channel and given it excellent reviews. SoulSister75 has even said that it’s imperative that you buy this book and not just because she’s featured in it but because it has great natural hair care information.

NaturaleeHappee has a natural hair book review video on her new natural hair YouTube channel.  She gives a quick but thorough review of four different natural hair books that she’s read.

Amatye79 gives “Thank God I’m Natural” by Chris-Tia Donaldson an awesome review.  She says the books incorporates so much information that has to deal with going natural and she encourages moms to read this book before decided to relax their children’s hair.

Online Natural Hair Community
Social networking has been a true savior to many of us.  And I’m not just talking about any social networking sites, I’m talking about social networking sites that are dedicated to healthy hair care.  There’s encouragement, shared experiences and a sense of belonging when you join healthy hair social networking sites.  So get involved.

SeeMyHealthyHair  has started an online social networking site that’s a natural black hair care forum for styles, growth and products.  Seemyhairgrow.ning.com

SunshineLovesPeace started an online social networking site where natural hair is the norm.  naturalsunshine.ning.com

KISSseventyseven also has a social networking site, keepitsimplesista.ning.com that full of KISS sisters.
