The Curly Buzz is an
online broadcast of interesting people, information, events and products that
are buzzing in the virtual natural hair community.
Today’s topics are

spotlight three tightly coiled natural hair YouTubers.
NotoriouslyNappy1 has
been natural for a little over two years and she makes some creative natural
hair tutorial videos. Her natural locs
are so thick and luscious and she has a retro inspired pin up hair style that’s
to die for.

documenting her teeny weeny afro journey.

options for TWAs.
TheNaprika is a
London natural who gives hair tutorials, product reviews and has a new question and answer series that
features her mom.
Hair Typing
Hair typing is a
really huge deal in the natural hair community.
Hair typing is simply determining your natural hair’s curl pattern on a
range of one to four and your hair’s texture on a range of A-C.
Hair typing is quite
controversial but Keythema gives five great reasons why knowing your hair type
is important. When you know your hair
type, you can search for other YouTubers with the same hair type to find
styling tutorials, product reviews and tips for hair care.
There are some
YouTubers who don’t want to be put in a category but 11zeaky has a video
discussing this subject and she compares hair typing to being typed for makeup
foundation for your face.
BlackWomanScholar
even chimed in on the hair typing topic and said that when someone states their
hair type then she can visualize their hair styling issues they are dealing
with. She also talks about the cunta
kentee references to natural hair.
If you guys know of
someone with a really good current video on hair typing let me know and I can
add it to the description of this video.
Get your fit on
When I decided to focus
on growing healthy hair, I realized that I was spending a lot of time on the
external. I later decided that I needed to put just as
much emphasis on my internal health as I was putting on my hair. If the internal is healthy then it passes
through to the external.
Evelyn Prather’s
YouTube channel is dedicated to helping you become a healthier you. Not only does she have natural hair videos,
but she also has exercising, eating and drinking water challenges. She’s a vegan who’s lost a ton of weight by
making healthier choices.
If swimming is your
exercise of choice then have no fear that your natural hair will get damaged by
all the chlorine in the pool. Cassidy
from NaturalSelectionBlog has a great video that shows you how to prepare your
hair before jumping in the pool and she shows after pool care for natural hair.
If you need any
inspiration then there’s BudgetQueen79’s YouTube channel. This natural has lost over 60 pounds and
doesn’t look like she’s planning on stopping anytime soon. She talks about not being sabotaged, healthy
eating and she does exercise videos.
Styles
Learning to style
your natural hair is like a rite of passage. And for many learning to style can
be daunting and somewhat overwhelming.
But never fear, there are YouTubers with excellent, easy to follow
tutorials to help you learn styling techniques.
Twists –
AfrikanHairGod has a really detailed tutorial video on 2-strands flat
twists. He and yes, I did say he, is
awesome at doing 2 strand twists. He has
several video on styles that incorporate 2 strand twist in one way or another.
BlessedCurlyGurlz has a video that shows the
slow motion technique of cornrowing hair.
She is cornrowing her daughter’s hair and gives a basic guide to
learning how to cornrow.
Toliahli has a really nice tutorial for doing finger
coils that she later turns into a twist out.
She also has a tutorials on starter loc twists.
